Where is Hope?
See here.
What should I wear?
Absolutely anything you want - On a normal Sunday we have people wearing everything from athletic wear to high heels.
Can I come if I need to leave early?
Of course. You are welcome to come just for dinner and then leave or slip out during the service if necessary.
Who leads the services?
The Lutheran Chaplain for UMD, Pastor Ray Ranker, typically gives the reflection and leads Holy Communion. Students at UMD lead the singing, announcements, and prayer. There are plenty of opportunities to lead worship in some ways if you are interested!
Can I speak to the Pastor privately?
Pastor Ray always welcomes meeting with people one-on-one to discuss any issues they may be having in their personal lives, to go into the Bible and/or theology, or just to chat. He can be reached directly by his email, rayranker@gmail.com, or at 410-294-6691.
Is this ministry part of a bigger church?
The Humble Walk is a part of Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Maryland, College Park. LCM @ UMD is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a mainline Protestant church with close to 4 million members in America. The Lutheran church emphasizes God's grace and love for all people, and salvation through belief in Jesus Christ alone. Both LCM @ UMD and the ELCA are open and affirming churches for those identified as LGBTQ.
What if I'm looking for a more traditional service?
The Humble Walk has a more contemporary worship style, but if you would like to attend a traditional Lutheran service, Hope Lutheran Church has worship every Sunday at 10 a.m. in a very traditional and liturgical style.
Who is allowed to take communion?
All baptized and believing Christians may take communion with us, regardless of denomination or ideology. If you do not wish to take communion, you may also receive a blessing during that time.

I can't make it on Sundays, is there another way I can be involved in the ministry?
Absolutely! We have periodic retreats, service trips, participate in intramural sports and other social gatherings. Check out what's going on here.
